About the Team and Role
The Loyalty Engine team in Ascenda builds and maintains highly concurrent and performant services that process millions of records of transactions daily, applying configurable business rules to these transactions to obtain calculated points. Loyalty Engine sits at the core of Ascenda’s SaaS loyalty platform, allowing our customers (e.g. fintechs, banks) to define rules (e.g. Get double the points for all transactions made at Starbucks!) and craft meaningful and rich campaigns for their customers.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll use your technical acumen and strong hands-on abilities to help realise our ambitious product and technical vision. This includes high impact initiatives such as growing the scalability of the platform (e.g. supporting 10x more transactions), improving the configurability of our business rules, as well as to support more complex rule structures that allows our customers to build campaigns that meet growing business needs. You will also be in charge of improving key non functional requirements such as performance, reliability and data security.
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will also play an important role in cultivating a strong and robust engineering culture in our global team. This includes maintaining a high bar for quality, serving as a role model for our high engineering standards, and always striving to improve and provide a good developer experience for all engineers on the team. You will use your engineering expertise and passion to multiply and grow engineering productivity in the team, as well as taking on responsibilities such as mentoring and/or leading a small number of engineers, guiding them to be the next generation of technical leaders in Ascenda.
Strong technical background, with prior experience in similar roles such as Tech Lead, Engineering Manager or Staff level engineering roles
Experience building large-scale, high throughput distributed systems on the Cloud
Solid systems knowledge - having a good understanding of topics such as infrastructure, networking concepts, databases and how to optimise them
Fluent with our main backend programming language - Ruby, or, having a strong aptitude and desire to pick up and be proficient in Ruby
Have experience in developing technical roadmaps/RFCs to communicate technical strategy and vision
Great collaborator - able to work comfortably in a cross-functional team, not just with engineering but with functions such as product, design and business teams
Passionate about mentoring and/or leading a small group of engineers, guiding and coaching them for high performance
Have a keen eye for simplicity - be able to effectively break down or simplify complex solutions to simple steps that can be executed well by the engineering team
